about the workshop

Researcher and writer Kaitlan Bui studies migration, diaspora studies, and Vietnamese language. Translator and writer Phương Anh Nguyễn considers the space between memory, archives and translation. Together, their practices examine how language and storytelling carry heritage across generations. Join us at the gallery for a collaborative workshop drawing on the facilitators' respective practices. There will be refreshments available during the event, including Bánh Cuốn which are Vietnamese rice rolls.

This event is inspired by Autograph's exhibition Nhu Xuan Hua: Of Walking on Fire. Hua visualises feeling a palpable distance from her Vietnamese heritage. Across generations, the absence of a shared language within the household profoundly influenced her artistic practice, highlighting photography’s capacity to give form to histories that remain unspoken.

The ticket price for this event is £10. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If this ticket price is unaffordable for you, please get in touch with Harriet at harriet@autograph-abp.co.uk about free ticketing options.
